Your little fellow is at the stage of their life in which they are not able to take care of themselves.  But this does not mean that you have to let this pass.  Of course, you will also have to employ steps for him to learn how to use the potty by himself.  You don’t want your kid to be dependent on you all his young life.

Potty training for boys would take a week or less.  This seems to be a short period but will surely test your patience in the process.  And because of urgent tasks that compete for your attention, it is bothersome to juggle your schedule.  But as with other tasks at hand, this is important and is very beneficial if done in the long run.

Before ditching the diapers…

Making sure that your son is ready to take on the challenge is necessary.  Patience is key especially when dealing with these young fellows.  Signs that he may be interested in potty training wanting to wear underwear, ability to stay dry in a long period (meaning, he knows how to control his bladder), and of course, he could directly ask you.  Just keep your eyes open for readiness signs. ‘I wanna be like Dad’

Indeed, his dad is his model in everything.  That’s why training with his father is instrumental for fast learning.  The standing part could be a big challenge for your young kid, especially if he is used to the sitting position.  However, seeing his dad does otherwise, he could be motivated to follow how he sprays.

Keep it at light mood

Teaching young boys can really be frustrating.  As mentioned before, parent’s patience really plays a big part in learning.  Once your frustration shows, the toddlers can sense it and could behave oddly.  Keep the training fun and enjoyable.

A wise trick is to give him a target.  Tossing a rounded cereal is a great example.  Instruct him to aim his spray in the middle of the circle.  With this game, he’ll surely have fun while learning how to do things himself.

Outdoor Training

Teaching could be complicated if done in a single environment.  He may associate your bathroom with failures to perform the task.  Bring in some change by taking your kids outdoor.  A family picnic would be a great time to reinstruct him.

However, make sure that when you go outdoors, you keep in mind to have fun.  Bring with you foods, drinks, or a game gadget. Training your kid should not be the priority of the picnic.

Once this is established, you may insert the training during breaks.  Tell him to find a tree he can spray on.  And remind him to do it while standing.  Dad could assist, of course.

Your baby is now ready to say goodbye to diapers.  This is part of his natural milestones and be happy that you have surely contributed in this learning.  There are still several milestones he has to achieve in his way to adulthood but it is good to know that you have contributed.
